Masih melanjutkan seri belajar bahasa inggris dalam pembahasan grammar, kali ini kita akan belajar tentang kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung. Uncountable Noun adalah kata benda yang tidak dapat dihitung dengan angka, misalnya : wood, milk, tea, meat, flour, ink, furniture, tobacco, butter, cloth, gold, silver, coffee, wool, water, paper, iron, bread, wheat, food, sugar, soup, grass, fruit, salt, lemonade, cheese, rice, margarine, knowledge, money, petroleum, gasoline, pork, paint, beer, sand, rain, etc.
Sifat-sifat Uncountable Noun :
Selalu dalam bentuk singular (tunggal)
Contoh :
- We eat soup with a spoon
- A knife is made of metal
Tidak dapat dirangkai dengan kata sandang a atau an
Contoh :
- Milk comes from a cow
- Sugar is nice in a cup of tea
Dapat dirangkaikan dengan kata sandang the tapi dalam arti tunggal
Contoh :
- There is the milk in the bottle
- The bread is made from the flour
Dapat menggunakan some atau any untuk menunjukan arti sedikit
Contoh :
- She wants some tea, but she doesn’t want any sugar
- Do you have any meat?
Dapat dirangkaikan dengan kata all of, none of, atau a little of
Contoh :
- All of the milk in the bottle is hot
- None of the milk is cold here
Dapat dirangkaikan dengan kata much, a lot of, a great deal of, atau a plenty of untuk menunjukan arti banyak
Contoh :
- He doesn’t have much ink
- There is plenty of fruit in the cupboard
Catatan :
Uncountable Noun dapat dijadikan Countable Noun
Contoh :
- ink -> a bottle of ink
- tea -> a cup of tea
- water -> a glass of water
